Plurion Technology Platform | Flow Batteries Vs. Conventional Batteries
Plurion Advantages | Product Engineering

Early in its development cycle, Plurion recognized that careful product engineering would be needed to create a product family that could compete credibly and reliably with existing peak-demand technologies such as simple-cycle peakers developed by the gas turbine industry. Consequently, Plurion's strategy has been entirely focused on developing a high-quality product that fully delivers the cost, quality, and performance benefits of volume manufacturing.

The basic building block is a 65kW two- to four-hour unit ( illustrated below). The design has been optimized around three electrolyzers that share two common electrolyte tanks.

The electrolyzer design incorporates a novel, proprietary technology that all but eliminates shunt current losses within the electrolyte. This in turn has allowed the electrolyte circuit to incorporate exceptionally short electrolyte paths, which with the proprietary electrolyzer design allows for low pumping losses.

Based on four 65kW sub-modules, Plurion’s 250kW 1MW battery is designed to fit inside a standard 40-foot shipping container.

With its product development cycle drawing to a close and test facilities established in the US and UK, Plurion is now planning its first production facility in Fife, Scotland.
